ROWENA SANDOVAL
Ballet and Tap Instructor

My name is Rowena Sandoval and I am excited to be teaching at Positive Energy. I have been dancing since I was 10 years old and have loved every minute of it. I have trained and competed in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, and a little of hip hop. My skills are in ballet and tap, which are also my favorite ones. I stopped dancing temporarily when I had my two girls now ages 5 and 3. I got back into dance because I love it and it is a great hobby to do. I am so grateful that Tam has given me the opportunity to share such a great form of expression and exercise with her studio and kids. I will teach my students great skills and discipline in the dance form that they will be able to carry with them through life, and we will have fun doing it.

TAMARA HOLMES
Owner and Instructor

Tamara Holmes’ tumbling career began at a very young age.  At three months old, she surprised her parents by not only rolling, but by rolling off a recliner and landing upright...without crying.  At five, she began formal training in gymnastics, but gyms were hit-and-miss with a family that moved often.  At twelve, after competing and succeeding in several competitions, she found her niche with an acrobatics troupe led by Mel Strand, veteran of the Venice Beach acrobatic antics circa 1960.  The group of tumblers toured often, performing at schools, malls, county fairs and countless impromptu public playtimes.

As an adult Tamara coached competitive gymnastics with Carson City Gymnastics Center for three years, learned about the art of teaching, and earned safety certification with the USGA.  At this time she was inspired by the work of Steve Greeley, the great god of recreational gymnastics from “Imagymnation” in Simi Valley, California.  Always longing for the fun and freedom of recreational tumbling, in 1995 she leaped at the opportunity to work for Stacey Froland at Positive Energy!
More than 10 years later, she’s lovin’ it more than ever, sharing the joy of cartwheels and handstands with her best teachers: her students.
